What is a Gantt chart?

A Gantt chart is a graphical tool devised by Henry Laurence Gantt that, in the manufacturing sector, allows linked production activities to be managed and expressed as a function of their time durations. The diagram, therefore, has time on the x-axis and (productive) activities on the y-axis, appropriately allocated to the resources intended to perform them (work centres in the first instance). Consultation and management are simplified and enhanced by this (now tried and tested) graphic format.
